Multiple Crashes at Downtown Sacramento Intersection Raises Concerns

A Sunday night crash in downtown Sacramento has raised concerns about the intersection at 12th and I streets. Three people were taken to the hospital after a rideshare driver and their two passengers collided with another vehicle. All parties are expected to survive.

Just last month, this same intersection had a car crash into a Thai restaurant on the corner. The same restaurant had a car crash into it in March.

Multiple people have reported that the intersection is extremely dangerous, with crashes being a repeat occurrence. The owner of the restaurant believes that the lights change from green to red too quickly and don’t give cars enough time to stop.

Sacramento Approves Study of Dangerous Intersections

This accident comes on the heels of the City Council approving a study last week to look into fixing dangerous roads and intersections in the area.

The study aims to look at 10 different corridors in the greater Sacramento area to make it safer for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists.

Sacramento drivers are regularly rated as some of the worst in the country.

Public Entity Liability for Dangerous Intersections

After an auto collision, on top of seeking immediate medical care , we always recommend taking pictures of the scene of the accident with your smartphone, if possible. This would include not only how the vehicles ended up, but also pictures of stop signs, red lights, shrubbery, etc.

The reason for these additional pictures is because it’s very possible that a lack of maintenance or poor design can lead to auto collisions. While there certainly may be negligence on the part of the other driver, the poor design may have contributed to the crash as well.

Insurance companies use plenty of different tricks after car accidents to convince people not to hire a personal injury attorney. Each of these is designed to hurt or deny your car accident claim.

Insurance companies use the time to their advantage. The longer things go on, the better for them. And this is no more important than when seeking a personal injury claim against a public entity. The timeline for filing a claim against a government entity in California is 6 months from the date of the injury.

If you fail to submit your claim within this timeframe, the state will have an absolute defense against you in court if you file a lawsuit seeking damages. This is why we recommend seeking the help of a car accident attorney right away.

The best Sacramento personal injury lawyers understand how different timeframes work for public and private injuries and can help you navigate the difficult claims process. Insurance companies are well aware of how these work and will string you along to get the statute of limitations to pass.
